CHI - The Art Manifestation in a World of Commerce
Théophile Signard是一位出生于巴黎的艺术家，目前在上海生活和工作。他创作了连环画和一系列插图。艺术家们的作品系列描绘了他生活中或世界上发生的事件，比如在中国爆发Covid-19病毒的化妆舞会。Théophile Signard is a Paris-born artist, who currently lives and works in Shanghai. He creates comic strips and series of illustrations. The artist’s work series portray the events occurring in his life, or in the world in general, such as ‘Masquerade’ dedicated to the Covid-19 outbreak in China.
Théophile 从小就被艺术包围，他认为非洲艺术和漫画是他第一次与创造性世界的互动。艺术家如Katsuhiro Otomo, Egon Schiele, Toulouse-Lautrec，和Alphonse Mucha也一直对他有很大的影响。
Surrounded with art from childhood, Théophile considers African art and comics his first interactions with the creative world. Artists such as Moebius, Katsuhiro Otomo, Egon Schiele, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Alphonse Mucha have always had a great influence on him as well.
目前，Théophile Signard更喜欢创作数字艺术品。这位艺术家说，这种技术的主要好处是自由，因为这样，他可以随时创作，也可以只需带着他的平板电脑跟着他的工作室去任何地方。有时，Théophile会重新使用墨水和纸张。Currently, Théophile Signard prefers creating digital artworks. The artist says that the main benefit of this technique is freedom, as this way, he is able to create anytime, as well as go anywhere with his workshops, while only having his tablet with him. Sometimes Théophile goes back to using ink and paper.
Théophile总是偏爱黑白图像。“我说的黑白不是指灰色。我喜欢对比，我喜欢隐藏在阴影里的东西。你的眼睛看不到它，但你的大脑却能看到。他称自己与颜色的关系是爱恨交加的关系，这取决于他的心情和情绪。我们可以看到，他倾向于给他的艺术作品添加一种原色(如果他选择这样做的话)，就像他的《贞节》系列，灵感来自20年代早期的复古照片。Théophile has always preferred black and white images. “By black and white I mean no gray. I love contrast, I love what is hidden in the shadow. Your eyes cannot see it, but your brain does”, says the artist. He calls his relationship with color a love/hate one, depending on his mood and emotions. We can see that he tends to add one primary color to his artwork (if he chooses to do so), like in his ‘Chastity’ series, inspired by vintage photos of the early 20s.

The artist also worked with Nike and did a collaborative exhibition in Shanghai with MUSEu&m. He says a few more exciting projects are coming soon.
